Explore, Savor and Laugh - Rambunctious Women in Provence
Join me, Lorraine d'Entremont Rawls, author, curator, tour guide and sometime film maker for a spirited adventure into the rarer parts of Provence. I have put together a unique tour for a small group of inspired women who want to see another side of Provence.
Here is a sample of what our adventure will be like.
Arrival is September 6th
I will pick you up at the Avignon TGV station around 2:20pm in our air conditioned van.
We will head down to a most unknown part of Provence, the Camargue. We will spend 4 nights at a family run boutique hotel a mere 10 min. walk to the village of Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. The whitewashed village sits predominately on the Mediterranean with a decidedly Gypsy-cowboy flair.
While there we will participate in a traditional cooking class.
We will hike the ornithological park with the largest nesting grounds of flamingos in Europe, visit one of the most beautiful ranches of the area, have a special wine tasting (or course) and shop at the traditional market.
We will leave time for hiking the beach, swimming and exploring the magical history of the Camargue.
This is a place where the poet Baroncelli and Frederic Mistral worked to bring back the Provencal language and where Van Gogh painted the ancient church and peasants working in the flax fields. The Gypsies feel this is a very magical place and you will as well.
On Thursday the 10th we will be moving to the banks of the river Sorgue. Our hotel sits right in the heart of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. A most charming village where you can hike to the remains of a chateau and visit the grotto, so deep it was only in recent history that the bottom was discovered.
While here we will partake in 2 cooking classes.
We will visit the hillside villages of Gordes and Rousillon, have a guided tour of the medieval fortified village of Les Baux-de-Provence and have a special olive oil tasting.
Our last night will be spent in Avignon. Our hotel will be in the heart of the old town and close to the Palais des Papes. We will have a special guided walking tour of the town and a special dinner to close out our adventure.
Sept. 15th I will take you back to the train station at 10am. Other arrangements can be made for transportation.
Of course this is a preliminary itinerary and I will be refining it as the weeks go by.
This is going to be an active trip and you must be able to negotiate stairs, uneven paths and be able to be on your feet for a length of time.
This trip is limited to 7 adventurous ladies.
