Cliff Creek Wine Club Tour
SEPT. 19-29, 2015
Join the Cliff Creek Winery family and film maker, author and guide Lorraine d'Entremont Rawls, as we taste, sip and explore our way through the more unusual areas of Provence. This is a unique opportunity to see Provence with a personal guide and the wine expertise of Cliff Creek.
Sept. 19 - Saturday
Our driver and I will meet you at the Avignon TGV station at 2:30pm.
From there, we head to the beautiful northern Rhone vineyards of Condrieu and settle in to the Hotellerie Beau Rivage on the banks of the Rhone.
We are there for 3 nights and will explore the steep terraced vineyards of Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne.
We will take a day to discover the gastronomic city of Lyon with lunch, of course.
Sept. 22 - Tuesday
We will now take a leisurely drive to the far south stopping along the way at Chateauneuf-du-Pape, a medieval village known for making some of the world's greatest wines.
We will eventually end up in the village of Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer deep in the heart of the Camargue where the Rhone meets the sea. We will be staying here for 4 nights at Le Mas de Cocagne, a family run boutique hotel just a 10 min. walk to town.
The Camargue is a delta made up of flat plains, pastures and wetlands. It's French cowboy country!
There are very interesting legends and stories about this area and we will get a chance to wander the village and learn the history that is still being lived today.
We will hike the Parc Ornithologique, a 150-acre reserve of natural marshes. We will be able to wander the paths and see one of the largest nesting grounds of flamingos in Europe.
We will tour one of the most beautiful ranches in Camargue and share a meal with the family while listening to the stirring sounds of Gypsy music.
Of course we can't forget about the wine, so we will see the largest winery in Europe and learn how it escaped the phylloxera outbreak.
Sept. 26 - Saturday
We head east today to stay the next 3 nights in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
Nestled in the foothills of the Alpilles, St. Remy is a quintessential Provence town. Roman ruins and reminders of Nostradamus and Van Gogh are still very prominent here.
While we are here, we will drive out to the Pont du Gard, the highest aqueduct in the world and a UNESCO world heritage site.
We will peruse a market and, of course, fit in some more wine tasting.
Sept. 29 - Tuesday
We will get you back to the train station in the morning. Our bus will leave at 10am.
